Collection: Drives and Drive Replacements
So perhaps you have a brass loco that you can't live without but because it was built 50 years ago, it runs like a pig on stilts? Now you can rebuild the model with a new drive train or put her under glass and hope that someone, anyone; will consider importing these models just. One. More. Time.
There is another solution. Our upgraded drives.
These drives have the same mounting holes and screws that fit many of your existing legacy brass. Simply unscrew the old motor and screw in the new drive. No drilling or machining. Available in several gear reductions (2:1, 3:1 and 4:1) and with or without flywheels powered by uber powerful coreless motors, these are perfect for smaller locos.
Why is the reduction important and desired? Most small motors run around 12KRPM at 12VDC and your typical gearbox in an HOn3 loco has a 24 reduction. At 12VDC, you loco will scream down the track. Fine if you are running the Shinkansen but hardly practical for narrow gauge so we tend to only use about 40% of the available power range. Increasing the gear reduction to 74:1 allows you to run at the full 12VDC with a top speed of <40SMPH (scale miles per hour) with 3x the power and smoother lower speeds
So check out our catalog and if you don't see what you are looking for, reach out. We do a lot of custom redrives for folks. Lastly, keep watching this spot, there are a lot of drive products that are not advertised but available!
